The Final Call marks the end of a journey that started with a passion for addressing mental health, particularly within the BAME community. Sponsored by Peabody Housing, this final installment of the State of Mind series was made possible through a combination of personal investment and continued support from Southwark Council, who sponsored the first two editions. The story had already been written, but it was finally time to bring it to life with the right sponsor and a platform to share it with the community.
To celebrate the launch, we co-hosted an event with The Nest titled Beyond a State of Mind: Thriving Communities, held at Southwark Council. It was more than just a comic release—it was a day dedicated to mental health awareness and community engagement. The event featured the book launch, a panel discussion, an art therapy workshop, and a community resources fair, bringing people together to explore mental health beyond the pages of the comic. The final comic, State of Mind 3: The Final Call, was unveiled in a vibrant setting, where we highlighted the key themes and messages of the book, sparking curiosity and meaningful conversations about mental health.
In State of Mind 3: The Final Call, Deanii faces his most challenging battle yet, as he wrestles with the weight of his mental struggles and the impact they have on his community. With his journey drawing to a close, Deanii must decide whether to give in to his inner demons or rise above and thrive. This powerful conclusion dives deep into the complexities of mental health, friendship, and resilience, offering readers a thought-provoking and emotional end to the State of Mind trilogy.
This comic—and the event that launched it—was not just about telling a story. It was about bringing the community together, raising awareness, and helping young people understand that mental health struggles are a universal challenge that can be overcome with the right support.
